Missoula Wednesday Night Cross #2

Well, unfortunately I did not make stop number two of the Missoula Cross Series. On my ride to the race my fork completely snapped in half. I flew over the bars and banged up my shoulder. I've heard several race reports so far, so I'll try to summarize. First off, Doug "Dale" Shryock won the race. After being a part of course setup I know it favored a powerful rider like Doug of Phil. Dave stayed consistent and placed second. Two seconds in a row for Dave. Bill Martin, the winner of the Montana mountain bike series snuck up on to the podium for third ahead of Toby. Speaking of Toby he did a great job setting up the course for this race. I've heard great reports from everyone. Brink Kuchnebrod (sp), and Mike McDonald rounded out the top five. I've heard early reports of an epic battle between Ben Horan and Elliot Bassette for 6th and 6th. I wish I could have seen that! Heidi Gaskill once again took the women's race. It looks like she will be hard to beat this season. Nice job to everyone.

Butte is on Sunday. Look for the race report and photos on Monday.

2007 Rolling Thunder

Missoula Wednesday Night Cross

The Missoula Cross Series is finally here!

The first race in the series was designed by Team Stampede's Jeff Cincoski. It was a technical course with 3 dismounts per lap and plenty of things to hop and ride over. The A race started off fast. Phil Grove, Toby Meirerbachtol, Dave Hartman, and Tom Roberston immediately took the hole shot. I was in fifth trying to stay on Tom's wheel. As we entered the "S" corners the four leaders started to pull away from me. I looked back and saw Mike McDonald, Bill Martin, and Ellliot Basset. I knew that group would catch, so I tried to stay calm and limit my losses. Eventually, all three guys passed me and I ended up in 7th. Phil road away from Dave for the victory, and Toby took and impressive third. Going in to the bigger Montana races it looks like Phil will be the favorite. In the women's race Heidi Gaskill made here cross deput and took a dominant victory. She was followed by her sister, Megan. Anna Clark rounded out the top three. Butte is this weekend. Next week's Missoula course will be setup by Toby. It should be a good one. Hopefully Doug can stay on his bike.
